Today I’m getting ready for my weekend beer-cation! Tomorrow we’re skipping town and heading north for the 25th annual Healdsburg Beer Festival. On top of the 30 breweries making appearances at the outdoor festival, we’re also planning to hit up Lagunitas, Bear Republic and of course Russian River. Two years ago this was the first trip Nick and I took together. We drove up late Friday night and ended up getting super lost on a two-lane highway in the middle of nowhere with only the ominous red glow of wind farms and late night trance to keep us sane. It was pretty comical. This time around we’re leaving in the morning! So in the spirit of my beer-venture, I put together some of my favorite vintage beer advertisements. To expand on yesterday’s fashion shoot in the mountains, I decided to put together some images of vintage fashion in the great outdoors. Having spent last week in the mountains, I’ll tell ya looking pretty in the dirt and heat isn’t easy. I’m thus thoroughly amazed at how glamorous these outdoorsmen appear. One site referred to these lovely outdoor looks as vintage glamping. Aptly put, my friend. In case you hadn’t heard, my Pinterest is filled with vintage goodies like these, so mosey on over and take a look!
Here are some beautiful pinups for you to swoon over this fine Tuesday. I never realized how frequently these lovely ladies use Derek Zoolander’s classic look. He must be piiiiiisssed. I’m thinking about rocking a pinup look this Forth of July, but it really depends on the weather. A retro sailor sheath dress loses a bit of its charm when drenched in sweat. My vintage (if you call 2001 vintage) giant Uncle Sam hat will definitely make an appearance, as it has done so every year since my U.S.O. themed bat mitzvah party. I’ll let that sink in.
I’ve been collecting fashion pinspiration from each decade on Pinterest for a little while. I’ve found that Pinterest is more then just a great way to bookmark images I like; it’s also a wonderful resource for education. I’ve never had any formal training in fashion or design and am thus always trying to teach myself more about it. Pinterest is a great way for me to visualize the history of trends and styles and influential people in fashion. Curating these boards is a major work in progress and there is always room for revision, but I love that I’ve created a kind of textbook on fashion customized just for me. If that’s not the best way to learn, then what is? Check out my Pinterest page to see more vintage pinspiration!
Here's a collection of vintage valentines from me to you! I intend to spend today knee deep in glitter as I put the final touches on some last minute valentines. I hope your day is equally overflowing with doilies, X’s and O’s, chocolate, roses, sweethearts, ribbon, cupid stickers and everything else needed to make tomorrow great. Valentine’s Day is not only for couples, people! It’s a day for you to decorate, dress up, eat dangerous amounts of chocolate and tell everyone special in your life, “You rock, don’t ever change!” But really, you do not have to be in a relationship to celebrate Valentine’s Day. You just have to be a person who loves something. Anything. Your mom, for example. Or her super fat cat. Happy Almost Valentine’s Day!
