Ok fine. Let’s address the elephant. It’s true. I totally abandoned this blog. I didn’t mean to do it. I swear. It just happened. Six months ago I had grand plans of keeping track of everything- giving you witty, whimsical wedding planning updates as we checked things off the list. But things did not go as planned. Turns out, planning a wedding is hard work! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve loved every second of it. (well, almost) But I’ve invested every bone in my body to it.

Though I feel a little guilty for letting this ol blog sit on the shelf untouched for so long, I don’t regret it. By investing myself fully into the wedding planning process I’ve learned SO MUCH and had many new adventures! (Including but not limited to- how to negotiate a contract, stain wood, pencil in my eyebrows, manage a budget, mitigate family drama, can jam, make decisions, watercolor, design an invite suite, conduct an interview, bake cookies in the shape of my face and put vinyl on EVERYTHING) Ok, let’s be real- I already knew how to put vinyl on everything. So although you haven’t seen it, I’m still creating all the time. The only difference is I’m creating mostly just for me and my hubby to be. It’s been a welcomed break.

That being said, sometimes I still have things to share! Today is one of those days. And who knows, after the wedding I may have a super surge of creative blogging energy and things might pick up just where we left off. All will be revealed. Till then, please feast your eyes on our amazing engagement photos shot way back in January by the wonderfully talented Melissa of Marble Rye Photography! We took these by our home in Playa Vista. We spend a lot of time biking along the bike path so it was important for us to include it in the session. Now we’ll never forget it! We were so lucky to shoot when we did because a week after we took these photos a huge storm came and destroyed the dunes, covered the path with sand and littered the beach with trash. The beach gets a little crazy in the winter, folks. Hope you enjoy these as much as we do!

#HolaGiancola: What We Did In November

HolaGiancola: What We Did In November

Why hello there! Remember me? Your buddy, pal, weird friend who eats a lot of chocolate? Ringing any bells? Well, I just popped in to let you know that your theory was in fact correct- I HAVE been living under a rock the last months, or rather a stack of wedding magazines. But all this time away from you hasn’t been for nothing! Today I’ll give you the inside scoop on what the heck I’ve been doing and where we’re at on this whole planning a wedding thing.

HolaGiancola: What We Did In November

First things first, we picked a date- Fall 2016, baby! WOOP!!! After that we booked our venue, planner, photographer, picked our wedding party, made a guest list AND if you can believe it, I even said yes to a wedding dress! Told you I’ve been busy. Our venue is less than 30 minutes from where we both grew up. (Wait, have I told you Nick and I grew up down the street from one another?) It’s a beautiful hidden gem in the mountains that feels like it was made for us. There are separate areas for the ceremony, reception and dance party so it feels like three different venues all wrapped into one. It’s perfect. The dress too, is perfect! Totally different than what I had pictured myself wearing, but when I put it on, I knew it was the one. Being a bit of a nervous Nelly, I was worried I wouldn’t have that moment. But I did and it was really magical, and quite teary. Cheese overload, sorry. But it’s a wedding, people!

HolaGiancola: What We Did In November

As we’ve started to assemble our kick-ass wedding team, the overall design aesthetic is coming together. We are currently working on creating the invitation suite and website. By we, I mean Nick. I’m really just the creative director. (AKA Best job ever) To sum up our wedding style in a few random words, think- natural, colorful, mid century modern, floral, bright, rustic and awesome. Emphasis on awesome. Things I’d like to check off the list before the end of the year are take engagement photos, book our wedding night accommodations, reserve a block of rooms for out of towners, finish our website and order our save the dates. BOOM! So besides all the planning mumbo jumbo, how are we, the couple doing?

HolaGiancola: What We Did In November

Nick and I are better than ever! I’m having a blast undertaking such a huge creative project and Nick’s having a blast...watching me do it. We’re a good balance like that and it helps that we agree on almost everything. Except table settings. Random, right? In general I can’t seem to focus on much else besides the wedding. Last week I found myself telling the Trader Joe’s cashier about my bridal appointment. Awkward. I’m just so excited about all of it! The wedding, the future, being Nick’s wife! The only difficulty really is planning something so huge and wonderful, so far in advance. There have already been moments where I’ve suggested we elope. But we’re in it now, baby! And it’s going to be awesome.

HolaGiancola: What We Did In November P.S. Thanks to my bridesmaid Jodi for the pretty pics!

#HolaGiancola: Will You Be My Bridesmaid?

#HolaGiancola: Will You Be My Bridesmaid?

I’ve been thinking about a cute way to propose to my bridesmaids for the last few weeks. Even though they probably already knew they we’re going to be in the wedding, I wanted to do something special. I finally decided on a cupcake proposal! Fun and sweet! So Monday night I drove all around Los Angeles hand delivering cupcakes and personalized cards to my besties. If they accepted, they ate the cupcake. If they declined, they returned the cupcake. Like anyone would return a cupcake!!! Everyone accepted, and I can’t wait for all the festivities to begin. Read on to see how to pop the question with a cupcake!

#HolaGiancola- A Ceremony Tree

Friends, we need to chat. I want you to know, things might be a little different around here over the next few months. With wedding planning on the brain, it’s been really hard for me to focus on much else! So instead of fighting it, I plan to embrace it and share the process here with you. Don’t worry, I’m going to keep on posting fun DIYs and recipes, but plan to see a lot more wedding details. The thing about a lifestyle blog is that it’s fluid. It follows the inspiration and life of the person creating it. Remember when this thing was mainly focused on personal style? My how things have changed! When I have little ones, I predict there’ll be more DIYs for kids on here. But regardless the focus, I promise to keep busting my butt to listen to you and post interesting, creative beautiful content. Sound good?

Today I’m sharing a bit about our venue hunt. Nick and I knew right away that we wanted to have an outdoor wedding. I fell in love with the idea of having the ceremony under a large tree. So, we’ve been searching Southern California for the perfect one. These are just some of the places I’ve found. This week I started visiting some of the more local venues with my mama. The pressure is definitely on to lock down a space and set a date. It’s crazy how far in advance these places get booked. Like, crazy. I keep telling Nick that once we settle on a venue and date, I’ll relax... but he assures me I won’t be relaxing until after the wedding. There’s a good chance he’s right. But I’m really loving every minute of this! Even if it makes me a crazy person. It’s worth it.

P.S. You know I’ve been thinking about our wedding hashtag since before we got engaged...the winner #HolaGiancola Yep. In less than a year, I’m going to be Jamie Giancola! Craziness.

We're Engaged!!! A Treeposal- Paint the Gown Red

Yep. On the last night of our Oregon road trip, at sunset in a treehouse, Nick proposed! We’re ENGAGED!!!! Ahhhh! It’s totally surreal and wonderful and I still can’t believe it actually happened! IN A TREEHOUSE! So if you were wondering why things have been a little quiet around here, now you know why. I mean, how am I supposed to get anything done now? SERIOUSLY?!

This is the treehouse where it all happened. A wooden octagon, 50 feet off the ground, supported by a large tree whose trunk ran through the middle of the room. It’s name- Treezebo. The windows all rolled up and we watched birds and butterflies fly between branches. Then he got down on one knee. I cried, screamed out those windows and cried some more. I’m the happiest luckiest gal in the world and can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with this fella. Our Oregon road trip was an amazing adventure, but the best is yet to come!
