Hey Paint the Gown Red readers! I’m Delores from Wandering Past with a quick costume idea to turn you in to an everyday guardian of love and justice. If you’re anything like me, you may have waited a little last minute to finish your Halloween costume. But have no fear, this costume is sure to be cute, comfortable, and affordable. Jamie and I are swapping blogs today to share simple costume ideas with items you probably already have in your closet. Head over to Wandering Past to see Jamie’s adorable idea and read on for mine.
Usagi Tsukino (or Serena) from “Sailor Moon” has a wardrobe of adorable items to pull inspiration from and since I identify so much with this crybaby, meat-ball head, this outfit was a perfect choice! For my costume I built it all around one casual outfit seen in Episode 12 of the first season. This particular pink skirt was one I bought forever ago and somehow always gets neglected in my wardrobe. I paired it with my trusty oxfords and then planned for all the other items to buy. Since all the pieces are solid colored items, it’s pretty easy to find a denim jacket, green button up, and pink skirt to start making this costume. I bought most of my pieces new because of the time crunch, but there’s a good chance you already have an alternative in your closet or you can head over to your local thrift store to find these pieces. If you can’t find the time to do that and still want to go second-hand, you can always try sites like eBay, Etsy, or even an app like Vinted.
Now, you don’t have to be a natural blonde with ridiculously long hair to dress up like Usagi and you don’t even need to buy a wig if you so desire. If you do go the route of a wig though, keep in mind these particular wigs can get messy easily and have the tendency to tangle. But if you don’t care about all that, buy a Luna plush and rock whatever buns you can manage with your own hair. You can even just pick one of the other sailor soldiers’ everyday outfits as well. So if you have long dark hair, maybe try sporting a casual Makoto/Sailor Jupiter or Rei/Sailor Mars. In looking to this series for inspiration, you’re bound to find some adorable items that are already in your wardrobe and finally have the motivation to buy the pieces you wish were in your closet already. Now go forth and punish everyone evil in the name of the moon!
Thank you all for letting me share some Halloween costume ideas for you today and a huge shout out to Jamie for sharing her blog with me. Have an awesome Halloween!
