Honey, I’m home! Back from an amazing beer filled weekend. The Healdsburg annual Beer in the Plaza event was so much fun and Nick and I tried a ton of great beers from dozens of different breweries. We tasted some that we already knew and loved, Russian River’s Pliny the Elder, North Coast’s Old Rasputin, Bear Republic’s Racer X and some delicious new discoveries, Moonlight’s Death and Taxes, Anderson Valley’s Summer Solstice and Crabbie’s Ginger Beer which is really more an alcoholic ginger ale then anything else. Very dangerous. But my favorite beer of the weekend and possibly of all time, was Lagunitas' DayTime Fractional IPA, and it wasn’t even at the festival!
We stopped at Lagunitas on our drive up and did an Around the World tasting where we tried each and every one of their beers. Don’t worry it only came out to about two beers each. The seasonal DayTime IPA was a clear champion in my mind. It’s essentially a light IPA; lots of hops but only half the alcohol content. Deee-lish! Sadly when I went to order a few bottles to bring home, they wouldn’t give me any. Not even a growler! Apparently the only way to get this stuff is to venture to one of the 5 test locations. Luckily one of those is San Diego and you better believe I’ll be driving down there on a DayTime hunt very soon. Tomorrow?
Finally lets talk about those overalls! Pretty rad, no? I found them at a vintage store and thought they’d make a perfect beer festival outfit. Unfortunately at the time I didn’t really think about the weather. It was 100 degrees at the festival. Not a great time to experiment with layering. Oh well.
